Item Description
Large, classic rose-red, translucent, bubbly rhodochrosite botryoids cover the mounded small cabinet matrix cored with quartz and pyrite. The rhodo has a beautiful, rich glow when backlit. The periphery wear shows the banded nature of the rhodochrosite. Oppu Mine rhodochrosite is the most important and classic Japanese locale for the species, long after its closing in 1979. This historic and ancient mine has been worked for silver, copper, lead, zinc and cadmium and finally for banded rhodochrosite since the late 1600s (MINDAT). Rhodochrosite of this quality from here dates from before World War II to over 100 years ago! Excellent old-time highly representative material.
