Item Description
Spherocobaltite, Carrollite and Calcite from this well-known DR Congo mine, famous for world-class Carrollite specimens. Please note that the pink mineral was originally described as RHODOCHROSITE and MINDAT does not list Rhodochrosite from ANY of the numerous Kambove District mines, so it is more than likley Spherocobaltite. The front of the blocky ore matrix hosts patches of drusy pastel-pink Spherocobaltite crytals and a bisecting vein of glassy, lustrous, translucent, colorless Calcite. A classic 5 mm, splendent silver-metallic cuboctahedral Carrollite crystal with two small attached crystals is aesthetically isolated in a vug. The Carrollites have the superb luster, that is characteristic of this rare Cu-Co-Ni sulfosalt. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X35-1 and illustrated on Page 135 of his 2013 self-published book, Rhodochrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance (available by request).
