Item Description
A showy and substantial rhodochrosite and quartz combination specimen from the famous and now-closed Sweet Home Mine. Glassy, lustrous, light cherry-red to rose-red rhodo rhombs are very aesthetically scattered on the layered sulfide and quartz matrix festooned with quartz needles. The architecture of the two centrally located, stacked rhombs is outstanding (1.7 cm across). The large rhomb on the lower left is 1.5 cm. Overall the rhodos are in excellent shape. All are essentially pristine, except for a bit of trivial edgewear to upper rhodo in the stacked cluster, which is a very modest detraction. The back of this piece has been sawed to enhance the display quality. This is an excellent, larger, highly representative example of the combination species from this renowned locale. The prices on Sweet Home rhodos keep going up. Valued at $1500-1750.
