Item Description
The famous Sweet Home Mine in Colorado has produced what are inarguably some of the finest crystals of Rhodochrosite ever found. The superb rhombic form and intense red color has made them iconic in the mineral world. This specimen is a very sharp, glassy, rather gemmy, fiery pinkish-red colored single rhomb of Rhodochrosite with minor attached Sphalerite on the back. The piece comes from the CE era of mining at the Sweet Home, and the number SH1324 is painted on the base. Interestingly, the base/back of the specimen is not completely broken, as there are visible crystal faces all over where it appears to have re-crystallized ("re-healed"). A wonderful example of these classic and desirable Rhodos from this world-famous locale.
