Rhodochrosite

When it comes to specimens of Rhodochrosite, the most well-known material comes from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, or the N'Chwaning Mines in South Africa, but there are very extensive Rhodochrosite deposits in Argentina that produce material that is well-suited for lapidary purposes. Typically you won't find transparent material from Argentina for faceting stones, but the material does have great color and bandings. This particular stone is a beautiful reddish-pink, pink and white "Round Cabochon" cut gem with good translucency, and excellent banding showing how it grew in stalactitic formations.
