Rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite is probably most well known from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, but there are very extensive Rhodochrosite deposits in Argentina that have produced some of the most beautiful lapidary grade material in the world. The material is not often gemmy enough for faceting stones, but it does have great color along with beautiful banded formations. This particular stone is a beautiful reddish-pink, white and grey "Oval Cabochon" cut gem with good translucency, and excellent banding showing how it grew in stalagtitic formations.
