The various manganese deposits in South Africa have produced some of the most impressive Rhodochrosite specimens with that classic, beautiful red color. Faceted gems are becoming very difficult to obtain these days however. With that said, this is one of the better stones of Rhodo from South Africa that I have had to offer in the auctions over the last few years. Along with the Rhodochrosites from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, these are the finest gem quality Rhodochrosites in the world. This stone is slightly included for the material (especially in this size) and the color is a beautiful reddish orange hue (a bit more red than the photos would indicate when viewed in sunlight). The stone has an "oval brilliant" cut, and is certainly one of the more attractive South Africa Rhodo gems that I have offered recently, since so little is available on the market. The area that produced this material is completely defunct. Don't miss out on this eye-catching gem.
