Item Description

Rhodochrosite specimens from El Potosi's famous finds of the 1970s and 80s are Mexican classics. On this showy thumbnail, we have two stout, cherry-red, gemmy, tapered scalenohedrons, to 1.0 cm, that are jauntily perched atop the sulfide matrix. The highly lustrous Rhodos have dense, stepped-growth faces, which add pizzazz. The gently cleaved areas on both crystals are noted, but this remains an excellent and highly representative thumbnail for this famous locality.
