Rhodochrosite

Here's one for all your Rhodo collectors out there, especially if you love to collect pieces from hard to find localities. This may not be the prettiest Rhodochrosite in the world, but they're rare, and good ones are really hard to come by. This specimen hosts a dual coloration of Rhodochrosite with a tan-pink layer overgrowing more of a baby pink layer. I'm assuming that the more tan colored Rhodo gets its hue from a slightly higher iron content than the brighter underlain pink near the matrix. The piece shows the semi-globular habit that is common with this material, almost spherical. A cute toenail sized piece from this most classic of Slovakian locales.
