Rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite from Hotazel, predates even the famous spiky N'Chwaning pieces. This probably came out in the late 1970s if not earlier, and is a glowing, rounded aggregate of two generations of botryoidal rhodochrosite, one atop the other. The classic cherry-red darker color is underneath, overlain by a thick growth of a bright, colorful, more intense red hue. One rarely sees specimens this good from that era!
