The various Manganese deposits in South Africa has produced some of the most impressive Rhodochrosite specimens with the classic and beautiful red color, but gems are becoming very difficult to obtain these days. With that said, this is one of the better stones of Rhodo from South Afrcia that I have had to offer in the auctions. The stone is fairly clean (only VVS) and gemmy for the material (especially in this size) and the color is a beautiful fiery orange hue (less red than the photos would indicate when viewed in sunlight). The stone has an "Emerald" cut, and is certainly one of the more attractive South Africa Rhodo gems that I have handled recently, since so little is available on the market. This is a very attractive stone, and the area that produced this material is completely defunct. Don't miss out on this fantastic collector quality gem.
