Item Description

This is a special Hardcover edition of the book REFINED ELEGANCE, coauthored by Wendell Wilson, Rob Lavinsky, Alex Schauss, and Jim Houran. This book is our heartfelt tribute to the small treasures we love and collect, thumbnail specimens. The thrill and passion of collecting thumbnails is shared through a broad historical introduction to the sport and to major players and specimens, followed by a folio with stories and photos of the 60-year collection journey of Alex Schauss. Over 400 specimens are illustrated, many of them full page. This book is an exclusive tribute to collecting high level thumbnails, and tries to explain why we do it. 160 pages, published by Mineralogical Record. The seldom-seen Hardcover edition is rare and donated from their limited supply printed at the time the softcover version was distributed to all subscribers in November 2022.

This book is part of the 2023 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!
