Item Description

A beautiful piece of Red Quartz (sometimes referred to as Ferruginous Quartz, "Hematoid" Quartz / Hematite Quartz or Eisenkiesel) from Morocco. The material gets its color from inclusions of iron oxide, whether is be Hematite or another iron oxide species. The piece is coated with dozens of well-formed, very sharp, lustrous, pyramidal crystals measuring to a few mm, coating a layer of white/grey opaque Quartz underneath. Nearly ever single crystal is undamaged, I can only see a few tiny dings.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-197480.html
