Item Description
Large red beryl plates are somewhat rare, for many reasons (they are often broken up; and they don?t seem to form a lot in the first place). This unusual and showy large specimen has 2 dozen crystals, to 1 cm in size, festooned all about the contrasting rhyolite. Such a rich seam of this rare species is uncommon, and I say this having seen quite a few over the years. Now, the mining of this material is basically at a stop, and it remains a unique locality. This is a glamorous species, to my mind - a red emerald from the deserts of Utah, and found nowhere else? It sounds like a tall tale. But they were found, and now the best part of the deposit is inaccessible, so specimens are drying up rapidly on the market. Large display-quality plates like this, all the more so. Valued $4000. size: 500 grams in mass.
