Red Beryl is certainly among the most recognizable, desirable and rarest of gems / minerals from the Western United States. This Beryl variety is one of the great combinations of rarity and beauty in both worlds. The classic "gooseberry" color crystals have attracted collectors for years, and are now in short supply and high demand. This piece is a translucent/gemmy, sharp, lustrous, hexagonal prismatic crystal with minor attached Rhyolite matrix. As I said, it is becoming very difficult to obtain any good pieces / gemstones of Red Beryl on the market these days, and this piece will more than likely end up being a great bargain for somebody. This crystal was self-colllected in the late 1970s by Dave Bergman, a Colorado miner (the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.
