Item Description

Brilliant, gemmy cherry-red realgar crystals are aesthetically clustered along one side of a beautiful, sharp two-toned calcite scalenohedron. The lower portion of the calcite is water-clear, gem light amber with the termination being colorless, translucent. The striking stepped-growth faces really add pizzazz to this cutie. The calcite is 360-degrees, essentially pristine, with only a bit of contacting. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12484 and acquired from Scott Williams in the late 1990s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Choice combination material from the famous Shimen Mine, well-known for outstanding realgar and calcite specimens.
