Realgar (classic 2005 find)

Variable rich red, lustrous, moderately translucent, striated realgar prisms, to 1.3 cm, are artistically and richly clustered on the sculptural, large, contrasting gray chalky carbonate matrix. This piece is from a major 2005 find at historic Baia Sprie. A bit of noted bruising is certainly a modest detraction to this very attractive piece. Specimens from this 2005 find are considered to be world-class. The realgar crystals are light sensitive and must be covered and protected. Ex Dr. Vasco Trancoso Collection, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. The piece displays beautifully without aid. A beautiful large and rich matrix example from the famous locale. Valued $1500-2000.
