Item Description
Psilomelane is an obsolete group name for hard black Manganese Oxides (MINDAT). The extinct open pit and underground manganese Tower mine of New Mexico is well-known for distinctive "rat's hair" psilomelane. Tufts of tiny metallic, acicular psilomelane resembling rat's hair are richly festooned in the sculptural small cabinet vug in banded manganese ore. A showy, rich and highly representative example of the species and locale.
