One of the more unusual finds in all of Mexican minerals are these geometric and colorful garnets. Classic "raspberry red" grossular garnets are very aesthetically scattered on the sculptural large sintered-looking quartz-rich matrix on this impressive specimen from the well-known Sierra de Cruces. The vivid lustrous, translucent dodecahedrons reach 2.3 cm. These famous red grossular garnets have graced many important collections and are from the famous finds of the late 1990s and early 2000's. There is A LOT OF COLOR spread out on that stark sculptural matrix. These garnets are called "raspberry" garnets by many people for their unique color and sharp form. They GLOW, when backlit. A few bruised garnets reveal the interesting black interiors. it is not perfect, but it is large, showy, and display worthy. Today, they are rare on the market although they were common for a time. An outstanding and rich cabinet example from the locale. The piece displays well without aid. We only get such large specimens back on the market rarely.
