Item Description
VERY RARE, showy, solid synthetic titanium crystal bar. The sharp crystals, to 5 mm, have striking patterns and bright silver metallic luster. The bar is made by the iodide process at the Oregon Metallurgical Corporation in Albany, Oregon and probably has 99.995% purity. The company was founded in 1955 to produce titanium, widely used by the military for ship propellers, armor plating, jet engine parts, steam-turbine blades in nuclear power plants, surgical instruments, and components in the U.S. space program. See: https://www.company-histories.com/Oregon-Metallurgical-Corporation-Company-History.html for more information on the corporation. Many people have synthetic mineral collections because they’re so interesting for a variety of reasons but this is the best synthetic titanium that we have seen for size and crystals. 86 grams mass. Formerly in the Frank Tierney Collection. Ex John Dagenais Collection, a well-known Canadian collector. He passed away in 2022. SELDOM on the market. Value???
