Item Description
A stunning large calcite crystal cluster from the Kalahari, probably from the N'Chwaning II Mine. Striking, large, gemmy colorless calcite crystals with decidedly different forms comprise this imposing specimen. The impressive doubly terminated central crystal is 14.3 cm long and has very nifty phantoms. Several of the crystals have preferential iron or manganese oxide coatings, adding real contrast and pizzazz. 4 of the 5 largest crystals are twinned and 3 are doubly terminated. For such a large piece, it is in super shape. The bit of edge rubbing on the upper left, bottom center and noted periphery wear and contacting have negligible impact on the overall outstanding quality of this large calcite. Orange fluorescence. Rare and superb large material from the Ludi von Bezing Collection, a noted South Africa and Namibian expert. He was the principal author of the 2007 large and excellent Namibia book. Valued at $3500 and up.
