Item Description

A RARE and excellent old-time calcite from the famous iron mines of Cumbria. This exceptional crystal is BOTH a classic butterfly-twin and a V-twin! The crystal has the gemminess, glassiness and intense well-striated faces, that Egremont calcites are renowned for. The V-twin jumps out at you, with the butterfly-twin at the other end being a bit more subtle. One side is the attachment with hematite and one limb of the V-twin is cleaved. This remains are striking, rare and important Egremont calcite with two types of twinning. Ex Howard Belsky Collection and comes with a rare old A.N. Fuller label, that dates from 1886 to around 1908, when he had passed away. BETTER IN PERSON! Difficult to photograph due to glassiness, striations and very high luster. Value??? At least $2000 if I saw out at a show in Europe, if not much more.
