Item Description

Ramsdellite is essentially a gorgeous version of the manganese equivalent of rust, manganese dioxide, where SOMETIMES the right conditions let the crystals have sharp metallic form and luster. This quality is really rare in nature, though, and this classic old find produced a small group of specimens in the early 2000s, after new exploratory work for specimens was done by Roy Smith (whose father had found some of the original specimens in the 1950s and 1960s). These crystals are fine intergrown, splendent, black, ramsdellite to 5 or 6 mm across. One of the larger, more robust specimens, with good isolation of larger crystals upon smaller ones. Valued $750
