Item Description
An attractive "Oval Cabochon" cut stone of Rainbow Obsidian from the La Revoltosa Mine in southwestern Mexico. For years, top quality example of Obsidian have come from this mine, but only a small percentage of these stones contains the highly desirable rainbow banding patterns, which are just gorgeous when polished. The stone show attractive flashes of iridecent blue, green, purple and gold when it's viewed under STRONG lighting. For those who are unfamiliar, Obsidian is natural volcanic glass, formed at the end of volcanic activity in an area where the remaining silica quickly cools near the surface. The pieces from the La Revoltosa Mine are highly prized in the lapidary industry for their superior consistent quality, and this piece would make a great addition to any collection.
