Item Description
Goethite and hematite are VERY RARE from this obscure Utah area. This is a colorful and sculptural tapered block of radial banded goethite blades with a classic 8 mm rust-red hematite kidney ore termination. The goethite has a nice chatoyant shimmer, adding character. Complete all-around. One side is contacted, but there is very little damage, per se. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1919 and acquired in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). It looks like a blocky "feather" from the iron mines of Michigan or Wisconsin, but it's not. Rare Utah.
