Item Description

While Quartz is not a rare mineral, it's notably rare to find showy display specimens of Quartz from the Dzhezkazgan District in Kazakhstan. This piece is certainly one of the best / showiest Quartz specimens that I can remember having to offer from this area in the auctions. A prominent, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, gemmy, colorless single Quartz crystal measuring 4.7 cm long, aesthetically sits atop a narrow piece of matrix, with attractive, dark grey-black colored crystals of the Tennantite Subgroup (the exact species is not known). Dozens of tiny Quartz crystals are coating the underlying matrix, and what appears to be crystalline Bornite can be seen on the sides of the piece. No damage I can find, and quite eye-catching. If you collect specimens from Dzhezkazgan this is a cool locality specimen to add to your suite.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#38 R), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
