Quartz with Schorl ''needle'' inclusion (Pinwheel Cut)

These gems are some of the most interesting and creative faceted stone you'll find. The are essentially "inclusion" gems featuring colorless Quartz with a SINGLE needle inclusion of Schorl, which has to be expertly positioned into the center of the culet at the bottom of the gem, and when the stone is cut at the proper angle, the needle will reflect on all sides, creating what some call a "Pinwheel Cut". This stone is a wonderful example of this beautiful material featuring a jet-black Schorl crystal that reflected all over the gem when viewed through the table. It certainly looks better in person than the photo or video might indicate. Rare, exotic and unique!
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports. Collection #8312. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
