Item Description

Kapudzhukh Mt is well known for its fine quality crystallized Rutiles which are comparable to crystals from Mt Graves, Georgia for reference. This piece is more of a Quartz specimen than Rutile but still features a fine quality, very sharp, lustrous, prismatic, metallic dark silvery-reddish colored crystal of Rutile measuring 1.0 cm sitting among iron-included Quartz crystals measuring up to 2.7 cm on host rock matrix. The Rutile crystal is pristine, and most of the Quartz prisms are in very good shape, though a few contacts can be seen. You don't see a lot of these specimens on the market anymore, and it's even hard to find a piece with so many nice Quartz crystals like this. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8825). Kay's label mentions that this locality was in the former USSR at the time she acquired it. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
