Quartz with Ilvaite (Hefendehl Coll.)

Remarkable, sculptural and sparkly, this is an uncommon quartz with ilvaite combination from the 2nd Sovetskii Mine at Dalnegorsk. Scattered, glassy, transparent to translucent classic beta-style quartz crystals, to 2.0 cm, dominate in the piece. Some of these crystals are included with ilvaite and have ilvaite embedded on the crystals, giving a smoky appearance. The surrounding dense matrix is composed of tiny ilvaite crystals and striking clusters of tiny, gemmy, sparkly, second generation quartz crystals, many also included with ilvaite. A very unusual and very showy combination from the early 1990s production at the mine. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection.
