Quartz with Hematite (var: "Specularite") (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic and showy display piece of this well-known association from one of the most famous mining districts in England. Several very sharp and lustrous, gemmy to translucent, very slightly smoky color Quartz crystals with the well-known doubly-termianted bi-pyramidal habit are associated with brilliant metallic silvery Hematite (variety "Specularite") "rosettes" on reddish "kidney ore" matrix. The largest Quartz crystal measures 1.2 cm. Hard to find on the market today, especially in such good condition with excellent displayability. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
