Item Description
Here we have a great gem for all of you rarities collectors out there. This is a fine and unusual gemstone consisting of two separate minerals. Ordinarily this would only be a simple Quartz gem were it not for the bright red, fibrous inclusions of Hematite inside of it! Hematite is iron oxide that can form in slender, acicular or "needle-like", bright red crystals (typically as inclusions inside of Quartz). This material is sometimes referred to as "Strawberry Quartz". The distinguishing factor for these stones that separates the good from the great is the color of the inclusions. Typically Hematite can be a brownish-red color and not a saturated RED like the inclusions in this "Cut Corner Rectangle" cut stone. I love how the needles sparkle and reflect inside the gem when it's rotated in the light. If you're in the market for something unique and different, you won't be disappointed with this one! This material is HIGHLY valued for its carving and lapidary uses, and very little rough material is around these days. Please note that these inclusions have been sometimes labeled as Lepidocrocite, but we can't find any actual information to verify this, and they are almost certainly Hematite. This stone is priced at $798.00 retail.
