Quartz with Hematite inclusions

This is a superb small cabinet cluster of "Orange River Quartz," named such for the location that produced this distinctive style and habit of material in the early 2000s. This piece consists of several, stout, brick-red Quartz crystals from 2 to 6 cm in length. The very rich and evenly distributed red color of these glassy to satiny-lustered crystals is incredible, and is attributed to heavily included, evenly distributed, microscopic Hematite, giving the crystals a very rich and even reddish color. Most of the crystals exhibit phantoms right at the terminations. The crystals are dramatic, distinct, and pristine; and the cluster is also nearly complete all around, with minor contacting around the periphery. The quality has not been repeated since the time of these finds. Unlike most Quartz from this region, of which there are many, the color is rich and saturated, even and not mottled. A stunning piece!
