Item Description

A classic old-time specimen of the famous Cleator Moor Iron Mines in northern England featuring many smoky colored, very sharp, highly lustrous, bi-pyramidal crystals of Quartz measuring up to 1.8 cm associated with silvery bladed crystals of Hematite, forming partial "rosette" sitting atop "bubbly" reddish-grey Hematite ("Kidney Ore") matrix. The piece is in great condition, with only a few minor nicks in a couple spots. The only real roughness is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. These pieces are incredibly desirable for those familiar with classic material, and certainly a must have for any fan of old-time Quartz specimens or English minerals. From the collection of Richard "Dick" Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Hauck is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
