Quartz with Hematite and Albite

CHOICE and DOUBLY-TERMINATED, this Quartz with Hematite represents one of the signature specimen combinations from the well-known Orange River area. The Hematite can be included within the Quartz crystals, or be a surficial coating, or both. I find this small-cabinet piece to be compelling. Not only is it DT'd, but the larger termination is a 3.6 cm scepter! The glassy luster is excellent, and allows a good view of the deep, rust-red Hematite zoning within the crystals. Blades of white Albite accent the razor-sharp scepter beautifully. The aesthetics of this instantly-recognizable piece from Orange River (whose production is primarily from South Africa), is excellent, and even better in person. Late 1990s or early 2000s vintage.
