Item Description

Back when these stones first hit the market around 2005, they were marketed as "Paraiba Quartz", because the inclusions had a bright blue shade like the famous Paraiba Tourmalines found in the nearby state. Now I will say that I am not a big fan of using trade names that are applied to new gems when they hit the market, especially if they can be misleading in their nature. It turned out that the inclusions in these Quartz gems are actually outstanding examples of the very rare mineral GILALITE, never seen like this before in such quality. This particular stone is a "Round Cabochon" cut Quartz gem included with some beautiful light blue Gilalite "banding". This is unique material, and rarely seen on the market today. Enjoy this beautiful rarity!
GIA published an article in Gems & Gemology, called as Medusa Quartz with Gilalite inclusions, in the Fall 2005, Volume 41, issue 3. I think this is a very interesting find, and I'm told that the mine producing this amazing rarity is now finished. I was also told that it was also a very limited find (only a few kilograms), so it will be very hard to replace.
