Item Description
This is the first specimen we've seen from Treasury Mountain in the Elk Mountains of southwestern Colorado. This attractive large cabinet display piece is filled with hundreds of sharp, well-formed, prismatic hexagonal crystals of grey colored Quartz, some of which have formed beautiful "sprays" which are associated with handful of GEMMY colorless cuboctahedral crystals of Fluorite on matrix. The largest individual Quartz crystal measures 6 mm long, and the largest Fluorite also measures up to 6 mm. No real damage, save the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A really interesting and different specimen from an obscure locality in Colorado. For reference, this piece was self-collected by and came directly from the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired from mining, but spent many years underground, including as the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
