Quartz with Calcite (self-collected by Dave Bergman)

Item Description

A large, impressive, beautiful and showy specimen from the famous Camp Bird Mine near the town of Ouray in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. This piece dates back to the 1970s and features sharp, lustrous, gemmy/translucent, white/colorless, well-formed, prismatic hexagonal crystals of Quartz measuring up to 5.1 cm, which play host to wonderful scalenohedral crystals of cream colored Calcite measuring up to 2.1 cm on matrix. The piece is in good shape all around, with only a few broken crystals, and one contacted area on the lower central portion of the specimen. The piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. These specimens are rarely seen on the market now and Camp Bird Mine specimen and certainly desirable and worth adding to any Colorado mineral collection, or a suite of Quartz specimens. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave actually self-collected this specimen while he worked at the Camp Bird Mine. Dave is now retired from mining, but was formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s, and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.
