Quartz with Calcite, Chalcopyrite and Sphalerite (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A plate of sharp, lustrous, translucent, white, bipyramidal Quartz crytals plays host to a few scalenohedral white Calcites measuring up to 1.5 cm long with a dusting of golden Chalcopyrite and black Sphalerite from an undisclosed locality in Betzdorf, Germany. The piece is in great shape overall, though the Calcites are not completely crystallized as they seem to have an interrupted growth. The Calcites glow a bright pink hue under SW UV light. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
