Rutile needles, to about 3.0 cm, are included in both the striking, water-clear sharp termination and the translucent lower section of this sculptural 360-degree quartz crystal combination. The high glassy lustre accents both the stepped-growth and smooth crystal faces. The impressive, gem upper portion of the crystal is essentially pristine, with only a few trivial wilbers at the tip. Contacting at the base, where other crystals once lay, actually has very little damage and is acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. Rutilated quartz crystal of this sparse style are uncommon from the well-known Diamantina area and this is a showy, highly representative example.
