Quartz w/ Hematite inclusions (Hefendehl Coll.)

Item Description

Color-zoned hematite gives the coloration that includes all of the transparent to translucent quartz crystals on this very sculptural elongated, mounded plate from the extinct Pb-Zn mine at Aouli. Most of the quartz crystals are included with variable brick-red hematite, BUT the knob at one ends features peach colored quartz crystals with unusual large hematite speckles. The mine operated from about 1926 until 1975. More recently, fine yellow cubic fluorite specimens have been recovered by local diggers and collectors. The red color is similar to those from the Orange River of South Africa. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection. Very showy and uncommonly bi-colored hematite-included quartz from the locale.
