Quartz (very gemmy!) with Stannite and Muscovite (ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection)

A classic example of the famous Stannite specimens from Yaogangxian. These pieces came and went in the early 2000s, and are now almost completely absent from the market, but they stand out for me as some of the finest examples of Stannite in the world. This small cabinet specimen features a large, predominant, very sharp, lustrous, VERY GEMMY, colorless, stout prism of Quartz measuring 7.7 cm long flaring up out a matrix composed of many fine quality, sharp, lustrous, brassy / iridescent Stannite crystals along with addition gemmy colorless Quartz prisms and some golden Muscovite crystal groups for a nice touch. No major damage that I can find. Such a showy and fine quality example of this classic material. We had this one priced at $1,500 in the inventory. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
