Item Description

What a cool and totally unique Quartz crystal from Brazil. This lightly smoky colored specimen is notably different from most Quartz crystals you'll find as it is incredibly thin/tabular, and it's almost completely crystallized all the way around the periphery, very close to being a complete "floater"! Only a few small spots of roughness can be seen, but the piece is largely undamaged. The odd "wide" habit of the crystal combined with the glassy luster and good internal gemminess make it a really special and desirable specimen for any fan of worldwide Quartz or Brazilian minerals. You'd be hard-pressed to find another quite like it. Specimen weight is 27.0 grams.
From the collection of the long time, beloved, well-known French field collector, Paul Zerfass (Collection #1200). Zerfass built this worldwide collection over nearly 50 years, many of which were personally collected. A biography featuring specimens from his collection (along with his face on the cover) is in the May - June 2017 issue of French mineral magazine, Le Règne Minéral. We have a .pdf copy of the article for anybody interested in reading it (though it's mostly in French). Just drop us a line and know that you'd like to have a copy.
