Item Description

This is a great example of the famous Quartz specimens from Hallelujah Junction, right on the Nevada / California border. This piece features a sharp, well-formed scepter habit crystal with a gentle smoky color on the top, and a darker hue on the lower portion, which is associated with a slightly compressed Smoky Quartz crystal on the back, sitting on additional Smoky Quartz matrix. The specimen was mined in May of 2017. It has good form, sharpness, luster and gemminess for any locality, especially one in the U.S. The bi-colored crystals are well-documented from this locality, and are some of the most well-known Quartz specimens to come out in recent years. An eye-catching piece, and a good display specimen for the material. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
