Quartz var: Smoky (RARE GWINDEL for the locality!)

Novo Horizonte is best known for three mineral species: Quartz, Hematite and Rutile. The famous Hematite and Rutile "stars" from this locality, which are often found on or included inside of Quartz are iconic. Typically the Quartz crystals from this locality are simple prisms, so you don't ever expect a piece like this to show up! This is a wonderful specimen of fine quality Smoky Quartz in the classic "Gwindel" (German word for "twist") habit with medium luster, sharp crystals and good internal gemminess. When the piece is backlit, it shows a light golden-smoky hue. The "Gwindel" is associated a partial "star" of Hematite and Rutile at the front edge, a sure sign that it's truly from Novo Horizonte! You can see there is a slight "twist" to the "Gwindel" when viewed from above. Now the piece is not damage free, there are some nicks and dings in a few spots, but the RARE locality is what matters here. You're not likely to find another like this on the market, and if you collect Quartz or Brazilian minerals, this would make a fantastic addition to your collection. The piece comes from a discovery in 2020. Valued $1,500 for the rare locality.
