Quartz var. Smoky on Albite

Item Description

Here is a rare combination specimen from the Goboboseb Mountains of Namibia. A gem, doubly terminated crystal of Smoky Quartz is perched elegantly on a cluster of large, well-formed Albite crystals. The glassy Smoky Quartz crystal is slightly turbid at the very interior then quickly transitions into a very transparent outer zone with captivating and very distinct smoky highlights along all of the edges and at the terminations for great aesthetic affect. The crystal measures 2.7 cm from tip to tip and is actually composed of one dominant and another lesser crystal in very tight parallel growth that is only discernible on the backside of the crystal. The lustrous, off-white Albite crystals are quite large, ranging between 1 to 4.5 cm in maximum dimension and provide a perfect contrasting base for the handsome Smoky Quartz crystal. The Albite has a faint orange surficial hue from just a touch of iron oxide staining. Nicely composed and well balanced. From the noted European and worldwide collection of Kurt Hefendehl.
