Item Description
Fine quality display specimen of Smoky Quartz from the Akchatau Mine in Kazakhstan are notably hard to find on the market. This particular specimen is certainly one of the best we've had to offer. This full cabinet sized display specimen is filled with sharp, lustrous, GEM QUALITY, well-formed, hexagonal prismatic crystals of Smoky Quartz measuring up to 4.2 cm on matrix. The crystals have a classic hue for Smoky Quartz, but they also have a slight golden (Citrine-esque) overtone. The vast majority of the crystals are undamaged, though there are a few contacted spots if you look closely. Typically the Smoky Quartz specimen from this locality are fairly dark, and not GEMMY and vibrant like these. I would imagine that you will not find another one of these on the market right now, they were mined decades ago, and they are incredibly hard to find even in private collections. A must have specimen for any fan of worldwide Quartz. I would put a retail value between $1,000-$1,500 on this one.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#681 Ru), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the coming months and years through our various platforms.
