Quartz var: Smoky

Item Description

A gorgeous, showy and fine quality display specimen featuring excellent, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, hexagonal prismatic crystals of Smoky Quartz measuring up to 6.3 cm long, aesthetically sitting on matrix. The crystals range in color from rich almost "Morion" hues to lighter silvery tones underneath. The majority of the crystals are pristine. With backlighting, you can see they are GEM quality internally. It's certainly better quality than most we've offered from the Ural Mountains in Russia. You don't expect this from Russian specimens typically, and it's on par with fine specimens from Switzerland, New Mexico, or even Brazil. The best Russian pieces don't get the pricing respect they deserve, to my mind.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#39 RU), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
