Item Description

Quartz is found all over the world in many styles and colors. One of the most celebrated and recognized varieties of Quartz are the pink crystals dubbed Rose Quartz, which actually get their color from tiny fibrous inclusions of Dumortierite. Among the top example of crystallized Rose Quartz in the world are those from the Itinga area in Minas Gerais, Brazil. These specimens are beloved for their superior color, form and crystallization. This particular specimen dates back to 1973 and features very sharp, highly lustrous, light pink colored Rose Quartz crystals measuring up to 2.1 with no matrix, but there is a group of a light golden colored Muscovite flaring out of one end for a great dramatic effect. The Rose crystals are all well-formed and show good inner translucency when backlit. There are a few separation marks where the piece was removed from the pocket wall, but overall it's a showy and pretty piece dating back over 50 years ago.
This piece was personally acquired by Richard "Rich" Kosnar (1946-2007) at the Ilha Claim (which is a famous pegmatite located on a small island in the Jequitinhonha River), and he was actually the first US dealer to import minerals from this locality. The piece remained in Kosnar's personal collection until his death, and is now available for any of you Quartz enthusiasts or Brazilian mineral fans.
