Item Description

This is a lovely old-time display specimen of Rose Quartz from this world-famous locality on an island in the middle of the Jequitinhonha River. Crystallized specimens of Rose Quartz are honestly that not common in the mineral world, and this is a showy and eye-catching specimen featuring beautiful pink colored crystals which have formed over slightly smoky colored Quartz with minor beige colored Feldspar and Mica on the back. Without a doubt, the finest crystallized examples of Rose Quartz have been found in Brazil over the last 50+ years. This area is well known for its beautiful specimens of Rose Quartz, but it's a rarity to find such showy and eye-catching combination specimens like this.
This piece was acquired by Richard ("Rich") Kosnar personally in Brazil in 1974 and remained in his private collection until his death, and remained with the Kosnar family until now. Rich was a well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, notably being the namesake for the rare phosphate species Kosnarite. He spent the early part of his career importing minerals and gems from Brazil, and made many trips there to bring back material.
