Item Description
Quartz has many varieties, and Rose Quartz is one of the most distinctive examples, with an alluring pink hue that is unlike anything else in nature. Certainly, some of the finest crystallized Rose Quartz specimens in the world are found in various localities in Brazil. Here we have a classic, fine quality display specimen featuring sharp, well-formed, translucent, lustrous, light pink color crystals forming a beautiful elongated group, free of matrix. The crystals are good-sized for the material, and I will say that it's notably hard to find such euhedral Rose Quartz crystals in nature, as most of the time, Rose Quartz is granular or massive. It should be stated that the color in Rose Quartz is caused by tiny fibrous inclusions of a silicate species similar to Dumortierite (George Rossman was actually able to extract the fibers from Rose Quartz - https://www.mindat.org/photo-743401.html ).
Not only is this piece fine quality, it's also 50 years old as it comes from the collection of world famous mineral dealer Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007), who was the namesake for the phosphate Kosnarite, and had a strong presence in Brazil in the 1970s when he imported many gem crystals during that period.
